Live News

  • A big thank you to all our friends and fans for their kind support at the Hammerfest IV festival. It's great to have Rob back on stage playing in the band as the last time Rob appeared live with Saracen was back in 2003 at the Bloodstock festival. We have no further dates planned for this year as we are recording a new album but we are hoping to play a couple of local dates in the New Year.

Once again it was great to meet up with old family and friends and at the end of the evening an impromptu photo session occurred to reunite some of the Saracen family. Pictured below original founder members of Saracen Richard Lowe, Rob Bendelow and Steven Bettney (front left and back right) a later recruit Paul Bradder (back left) and the rest of the new line up Mark Chapple, Paul Highfield, Simon Roberts and Tris Alsbury.

  • The guys would like to give a big thank you to all friends and fans that came to the gig to support Saracen at the Boardwalk. It was the first performance with the current line up and we were delighted with the reception given. See you soon and take care.

  • Saracen have been asked to support a local charity on May 5th and although still early in rehearsals they will play a short set at the Boardwalk in Sheffield.

  • Saracen will be out on the road towards the end of 2009 and have now started rehearsing with a new line up. Steve Bettney (vocals), Paul Bradder (keyboards), Mark Chapple (guitar), Paul Highfield (bass), Simon Roberts (guitar) and Tris Alsbury (percussion).

  • The guys met up to discuss the future of Saracen. Steve and Paul believe that due to the interest and kindness shown by the fans over the years Saracen should be out on the road. Unfortunately Richard felt that he was unable to carry on playing bass for the band because of other commitments. Rob also decided that at this time he would rather focus on his Blues Report Project, so Steve and Paul are now recruiting some new blood for yet another ‘crusade’ but unfortunately Rob will not be in this line up. Saracen hope to work on an album in the near future once the new line up is complete.

  • Band take a sabbatical to work on separate projects.

  • 2006 "Vox in excelso" released on Escape Music and initial reviews are excellent.

  • Vox In Excelso is a concept album, based on the mysterious and controversial history of the Knights Templar – a medieval body of warrior monks, who grew to become one of the most powerful military & financial organisation in Europe. But their story goes far beyond battlefield exploits – the Knights Templar were guardians of an Ancient Knowledge; secrets that had major implications for the nations and religions of the western world... that are still cherished and protected even to this day...

  • Red Sky/Heroes Saints & Fools is released in 2006 as a double CD.

  • Mark Cross (of Helloween and Firewind) to provide percussion on the album.

  • Martin Kronlund agrees to produce "Vox" next year.

  • Started work in the studio on "Vox" next Saracen release.

  • SARACEN - BLOODSTOCK 2003

Saracen plays Bloodstock and all goes extremely well considering it was only possible for a few hours rehearsal with session drummer Jamie Little.

Bldstklogo.jpg (6697 bytes)

Richard Bendelow, current Saracen bass guitarist and 18 year old son of founding member/lead guitarist Rob Bendelow, was feeling slightly nervous before tonight's live set. Not surprising really, when you consider Richard wasn't even born the last time Saracen played live!

However, his worries were unfounded as Saracen stormed through a set which belied their years, turning back time to an era when epic, majestic rock was king. Richard settled into the line-up with ease, forming a pulsating rhythm section with drummer Jamie Little, and opening number 'Flame of Youth' was really rather fitting.

No ballads tonight as the band went for wall to wall rock, rolling out the classics with consummate ease. The likes of old favourites 'Horsemen of the Apocalypse' and 'Heroes, Saints and Fools' sent the faithful into raptures, whilst newer numbers like 'Red Sky' and 'Ride Shotgun with the Wind' showed that Saracen could rock out with the best. My own personal favourite was 'Follow the Piper', a massive epic of a song that got the hair flowing and fists punching the air down front.

Vocalist Steve Bettney seems to have hardly changed during the intervening twenty years, still able to hit those high notes with an almost Rob Halford perfection, whilst Rob Bendelow marries the poise of Tony Iommi with the sublime touch of Ritchie Blackmore, a cool figure in long, black leather coat, firing out massive riffs and coaxing wonderful melodies in equal measure.

Co-founding member Richard Lowe attacks the stage like a madman during 'Jekyll & Hyde', fittingly taking the vocal part of Hyde before sharing keyboard duties with current keyboard ace Paul Bradder on closing number 'Ready to Fly', another Saracen epic from their debut album, and due to be re-recorded for a future album.

So, after twenty years, Saracen have had a triumphant rebirth, and hopefully this is just the first chapter of another successful story!
